Lödige Ploughshare® laboratory mixer type L 1

Lödige builds the smallest machine in its company history

Lödige Process Technology has built the smallest machine in its company history in order to meet the highly specialised demands of the high-containment segment: The Ploughshare® laboratory mixer type L 1 now being supplied supplements the L series and has a drum volume of only one litre.
What led to this new development was an enquiry by an existing customer: This company was looking for a process engineering solution for exceptionally challenging dry mixtures for its development lab. As powdered substances such as these can be highly sensitive, extremely expensive or perhaps even hazardous to health and the environment, the only suitable solution was a contained process in a gas-tight container, also referred to as “glovebox”. That means: the mixer can only be operated and serviced within a glass safety housing using integrated gloves. For this reason, the machine must be designed to meet special requirements - and the mini-mixer meets all of them in full: Thanks to its small drum and an angle drive, it is incredibly compact. At the same time, it is consistently easy to operate. Moreover, all components are easy to remove, meaning that particularly wear parts, which must be inserted into the glovebox through an airlock, are easy to replace and reinstall.

The compact Ploughshare® laboratory mixer is a special addition to the L series, which is Lödige’s lab range for small batches. These machines are designed for development and small batch production and are available in several sizes with drum volumes generally ranging from 5 to 50 litres. The L series laboratory mixers cover a wide range of applications in product and process development: In particular, they permit processing of powdered, grainy and fibrous components, addition of liquids for moistening, granulation and coating, processing of fragile substances without destroying their structure and mixing in of greases, lecithins and similar substances.

This also goes for Europe’s largest gold mine in northern Finland. Here, the mill tailings are mixed with cement before being pumped back into the cavities created by the excavation. The continuous mixer KM 4200 DW supplied by Lödige Process Technology is specially designed for these challenges. For instance, its sealing system is particularly effective and it is equipped with a hydraulic device to permit automatic opening of the top horizontal drum section. This permits easy access to the entire mixing compartment, making it easy to clean. In Lapland, about 900 kilometres north of Helsinki, Agnico Eagle Finland Oy operates Europe’s largest gold mine. The company, a subsidiary of the Canadian mining company Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd., intends to extract over five tons of pure gold in the

Lödige ploughshare® mixers with ATEX certifiation Lödige produces mixers for all possible mixing tasks
Lödige ploughshare® mixers with ATEX certifiation
Lödige produces mixers for all possible mixing tasks The German machine builder Lödige has been building horizontal ploughshare® mixers for batch or continuous processes for many years. These mixers are built according to the needs of the customer and are therefore always unique. The Lödige ploughshare® mixers can be used in very clean environments or for heavy industrial applications. They can be adapted for processes under high pressure or under vacuum. For all these applications, Lödige can build a mixers with an ATEX certification so that - in accordance with European legislation - these machines can be used in an environment with a gas and / or dust explosion hazard. Once the customer (end-user of the machine) has determined in which ATEX zone the ploughshare®mixer will be used, and what ATEX-zone is needed inside the mixer, the Lödige engineers will design and build an ATEX-compliant mixer. Lödige builds batch mixers from 5 to 30,000 liters, and recently even supplied a continuous mixer with a drum of 57,000 liters

Lödige`s Ringlayer mixer CoriMix® for continuous operation especially developed for creating very fine granules
Lödige`s Ringlayer mixer CoriMix® for continuous operation
especially developed for creating very fine granules The Lödige CoriMix® is a high-speed, continuous mixer that creates very fine granules through the homogeneous mixing of liquids into powdery substances. The machine is relatively small but once the process is well defined, the CoriMix® can handle high throughputs. The powder is dosed from above and the liquid can be added through nozzles on the bottom of the CoriMix® or through the mixing shaft. By mixing the powder with a liquid and eventually a binding agent, you will create a bridging effect which automatically creates small granules. In general the resulting grain size is between 100 µm and 1.5 mm. If you target bigger granules, then a continuous Lödige Ploughshare® mixer KM or a Lödige Ploughshare® mixer FKM or FM for batch processes is the better solution.
