Simple big bag emptying in containment environments
Containment systems are primarily used for the safe handling of harmful or highly active substances. Handling such substances in closed systems not only reduces the amount of substance particles that escape into the surrounding environment to an absolute minimum, but it also stops unwanted foreign substances from entering and contaminating the production process. The new JEL SmartCon ES attachment system from Engelsmann for emptying big bags under containment conditions can be used up to OEB 4, which corresponds to a particle concentration in the surrounding environment of less than 10 µg / m3. Alongside the maximum possible Occupational Exposure Band (OEB), the operability is one of the most important criteria when it comes to procuring a containment system. As each manual operating step increases the risk of operating errors which can in turn cause a break in the containment. Regardless of whether you are mixing, conveying or dosing – when it comes to handling fragile bulk solids, sensitivity is required. This particularly applies to screening machines, as the back and forth movement on the screen surface places a relatively high mechanical stress on the screening product. If this aspect is not taken into consideration when choosing and designing your screening machine, it can lead to an unwanted breakdown of grains which then results in an increased number of over- and undersized particles in the product, causing it to be no longer fit for purpose. A screening process that is gentle to the product is therefore a decisive criteria for many facility operators when it comes to choosing the right screening machine. Engelsmann develops a new containment system
Easy big bag emptying up to OEB 4 Engelsmann has developed a new attachment system which can be used to empty big bags easily and safely under containment conditions. With the newly developed attachment system, foil-lined big bags can be emptied under containment conditions. As the emptying process is mostly automated, the operator only needs to perform a few steps themselves. During the emptying only very small, barely measurable quantities of product particles escape into the area around the machine. This protects production personnel from highly active and harmful substances and prevents cross-contamination with other products. Mobile filling station increases flexibility For many producers whose goods are destined for sale, there is not always a clear solution when it comes to finding the right packaging for their products. Even if big bags are the most commonly used method of transportation and storage, with their filling capacity of 1,000 to 1,500 liters, they are not always suitable for every customer. Big bags are often oversized for smaller operations or customers that want to test a smaller amount of product beforehand. In most production facilities there is not much space, and for some companies setting-up their own production line with a small package filling system attached is often not worth it. A manufacturer of plastic granulates was also faced with this challenge as they regularly got requests for smaller product quantities but they were unable to optimally serve their customers. Protective screening is probably one of the most common screening procedures in industrial manufacturing processes. You will learn why you shouldn’t do without protective screening, and what makes a good protective screen using the example of the reworked Engelsmann screening machine JEL Fix II. Why protective screening? Protective screens are used to eliminate disruptive foreign objects and impurities from bulk goods. These foreign objects can be plastic residues, for example, or metal parts such as screws which end up in the product by accident and can cause contamination. Lost knives for cutting bagged goods or protective gloves have also been found in products. To ensure a consistently high quality in the end product, these foreign objects must be separated before the product is put into its sales packaging.
