Solae removes metal contaminants from soya powder residue with a magnet
Remove very small stainless steel and iron particles Solae Belgium N.V., a Dupont company, recently introduced a new type of magnetic separator in their powder line; the Easy cleanflow magnet from Goudsmit Magnetics of Waalre (NL). This magnet checks soya powder for metal contaminants, such as stainless steel wear particles. The metal particles get into the product as a result of friction at the dryer drum and are absolutely undesirable. No operator needed Solea`s design requirements for the magnetic separator were that no operator would be required and that cleaning of the unit could be performed safely and efficiently. The unit also had to be dust-tight, food-proof and fitted with food-safe EC1935 seals. The magnetic separator placed under the vibrating sieve meets all the requirements and removes minuscule metal particles and weakly magnetic stainless steel particles as small as 30 µm from powders.How the magnet works. Removing steel wires from paper pulp by using a magnet A large paper mill in the Netherlands was looking for a solution for removing steel wires from the paper pulp. These steel wires end up in the pulp as a result of incomplete removal of the binding wires that hold the bales of cellulose together. This is done before the cellulose is processed into pulp. Production downtime As a result of the automated process in combination with the human control there is a chance of steel wire ending up in the paper pulp. This wire is particularly damaging for the equipment used to process the pulp. The result is production downtime, but this can be prevented through the use of a magnet. Magnetic filter Goudsmit has designed large magnetic filters for such processes, with bore sizes ranging from DN100 to DN400. The inside of the product chute is completely surrounded with very strong magnetic bars with a high flux density, making it possible to capture the steel wires even at a relatively high flow rate. New conveyor feed boosts yield of Eddy Current Separator
Product distributor replaces vibratory chute and prevents clogging The conveyor feed recently developed by Goudsmit Magnetics consists of a conveyor belt feed that is supplied by a product distributor. This prevents clogging of the vibratory chute during the recycling process and increases the yield of non-ferrous metals. Sticky or damp product streams, such as incinerator bottom ash (IBA) and refuse-derived fuel (RDF) adhere to the surface of vibratory chutes, preventing them from distributing the product evenly. The product takes on a preferred orientation (the path of least resistance) preventing formation of a homogeneous layer, which results in reduced yield of non-ferrous metals. Until now, a common solution to this problem was to clean the feed belt or vibratory chute at weekly or monthly intervals. This, however, means unnecessary downtime and extra maintenance. The true cause of the problem is the encrusted vibratory feeder. This newly developed conveyor feed with product distributor prevents this problem by creating a mono-layer
